Rally To Restore Sanity

Latest Update News About Jon Stewart Rally, March To Keep Fear Alive, Jon Stewart, Colbert, Colbert Rally: The Comedy Central television channel has applied for a permit to hold a rally led by satirical hosts Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert at the Washington Monument, the National Park Service confirmed.

On his show Thursday night, Stewart urged viewers to join him in “the rally to restore sanity!” saying, “We will gather on the National Mall in Washington, D.C., a million-moderate march where we take to the streets to send a message to our leaders and our national media that says, ‘We are here, We are only here until six though, because we have a sitter.’”

Colbert, not to be outdone, announced a “March to Keep Fear Alive,” saying on his website that the event was “to fight Jon Stewart’s creeping reasonableness and to restore truthiness.”

The announcements followed an Aug. 28 rally at the National Mall led by conservative broadcaster Glenn Beck aimed at “restoring honor” and featuring tea party darling Sarah Palin.

National Park Service spokesman Bill Line said the Park Service had received an application from Comedy Central, a New York political communications firm and a D.C. events company seeking a single permit for a “special event” on the north half of the Washington Monument grounds for Oct. 30.
